What is HighlightCam?

HighlightCam is an iPhone/Android application that gives users the ability to easily and automatically create great movies from videos and pictures on their phone - and then share through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, SMS and email.

Why should I get the new app?

New features of course! The new HighlightCam Social was re-built from the ground up to be faster, more powerful, and have more features than its predecessor. You can now:

  • Use new special effects
  • Share through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, SMS, and Email!
  • Add Music from your phone or from our Music Library
  • Shoot video from the app
  • Insert Text Slides
  • Access your friend's feed and add videos that they've shot
  • Tag Friends in your videos

How do I create a movie in HighlightCam?

It's easy! The first thing you have to do is download the app to your iPhone, iPad, iPad Touch from iTunes App Store or the Android Market

  • Choose the video and pictures that you want in your movie
  • Select the special effect that will make your clips look the best
  • Add music from our music library or from your device
  • Create title slides from the ""Edit Your Clips"" screen
  • Enjoy and share with your friends!

What are credits?

Credits are these magical units that allow you to create movies or access advanced editing features. Every user automatically gets 10 free credits when they join HighlightCam, enough to make 10 great movies.

But there are currently two main reasons why you would want to spend extra credits when making a movie:

  • High-Def. Like High-Def movies? Use an extra credit so that you can make out every detail in your movie.
  • Music Library. Don't have the perfect song to use as your background track? Use one of ours!
  • Credits can currently be purchased in the following bundles in the HighlightCam Social app:
    • 10 Credits - $2.99
    • 25 Credits - $4.99
    • 50 Credits - $9.99

What are special effects?

Special Effects spice up how your video looks and interacts. We are continually adding new special effects but if you have a specific one that you'd like to request, just (let us know)! Current special effects include:

  • Sparta
  • Old Timey
  • Black & White
  • Colorize
  • Neon City

Can I use my own music?

Of course! Music can be added either from our library of songs or directly from your phone.

Why is HighlightCam uploading my movie before I get to watch it?

Not to worry, your clips are just going to our servers to be processed. To speed up video rendering, we do all of the heavy processing in the cloud. Instead of rendering the movie on your phone, (which would drain your battery, heat it up, and lock up your phone) we securely transfer your content to our much more powerful servers and process it there to save you time.

In the future as you create more movies, you'll notice that your upload speed is being reduced. This is due to the fact that you don't have to re-upload the same content twice. Meaning if you had previously used a clip in another movie, we're not going to make you upload it again for a new one. This saves you time and allows you to view your finished movie more quickly!"

Can I use HighlightCam without an internet connection?

Sorry, no. Because login, video creation, and sharing all require an internet connection, you must be connected to the internet to use HighlightCam.

Why does uploading/processing take so long?

The first time you use a clip we have to upload it to our secure servers so they can process your movie and return it to you. While this may take time for the initial upload, you won't have to re-upload the clip when you use it in the future. We are continually working on refining our upload/rendering process, and welcome your feedback. If you run into any issues, please contact us at support@hlcam.com and we will get back to you.

I lost my credits!?

Oh no, that's not good. Send us an email with your username and a brief description of what went wrong to support@hlcam.com and we'll get you squared away.

How many video clips should I chose to have a great movie?

The more clips/pictures you select for your movie, the more opportunities HighlightCam has to select the best scenes. HighlightCam can even make a movie out of a single clip, choosing the best scenes for your movie. Most people prefer to use between five and ten videos in their movies.

How do I reorder my clips?

On the "Edit You Clips" screen, tapping and holding the three lines on the far right of each clip allows you to drag that clip into a new position within your movie.

What happens when I tag friends?

You can tag your friends so that when you share the movie to Facebook, they are tagged and notified.

Can anyone else watch my videos?

No need to worry, all videos are private unless you actively share your video's link with others and/or post it elsewhere. No one can stumble across, search for, or access your video without your permission. Your videos are safe.

Why did my video have an error?

Uh oh! Could you try to upload it to us again? If that doesn't work and you're still having issues, please email support@hlcam.com with your username and a brief description of the problem and we'll get you squared away.

I have a question regarding credits I purchased. How do I get a refund?

If your purchase was made within the app and you need a refund, please contact either Apple or Google directly. If your purchase was not applied to your account, however, definitely contact us right away at support@hlcam.com so we can get you up and editing!

What if I don't like my movies once it's been created?

That's simple! For all movies that were created in the last 2 weeks and haven't been shared, you can access a refund in your "Share" menu. Then select the "Edit" button on the upper right. This then creates the ability for you to "Refund" any movie you don't like.

Can I find my videos I made on my iPhone I made on other devices?

Of course! Movies are associated with your HighlightCam account, not your individual device. So if you create movies on your iPhone then log onto your friend's Android phone, you'll still be able to show him/her your favorite movies.

Do I have to do anything to move my videos to the new app?

If you have previously created a HighlightCam account, then you're all set! Movies are associated with your HighlightCam account, not the app itself. If you haven't created a HighlightCam account yet, then the videos associated with only that device until you go to the "Settings" menu and select "Convert Guest Account" to create a free HighlightCam account.

How do I install HighlightCam?

You can search for HighlightCam Social in the iTunes App Store or Android Market.

How much does HighlightCam cost?

With HighlightCam Social, it's absolutely free for users to share movies, use our feed, and send clips to friends. When you create your account you are automatically gifted 10 credits so you can also start making up to 10 movies. You can then purchase additional credit packages as you need them.

How do I add text to my movie?

Text lets you tell your audience exactly what's happening in a scene. To add text to an existing photo or video, simply select "Edit Your Clips" and then tap the "ABC" button to add text to that clip. To add a slide with only text, on the same screen tap the "+" icon.

How can I share my movies?

Once a movie has been created, you can easily share it to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or even send it via SMS/email. When you tap the blue arrow next to a finished movie while on the "Share" menu, simply select the icon for the service that you want to use.

How do I split my video clips?

To cut out that one annoying scene, on the "Edit Your Clips" screen, tap the "Scissors" icon next to the clip you want to split. Then navigate in the video to where you want to cut and select the "Split" button. You'll now see two separate clips instead of the single one you previously had.

Can I use HighlightCam to shoot video?

Of course! Video shot with our app is saved directly to your photo library on your phone so you can easily access it when you need to.

How do I learn about the new special effects when they're released?

The best way is to follow us on Twitter or Facebook. Alternatively, turn on push notifications for HighlightCam Social by going to Settings on your device and we'll let you know when the newest special effects are released.

What is the duration (length) of the movie I get?

It's up to you! For every movie we automatically recommend a movie length that's dependent on the length of the clips in that movie. But by navigating to the "Set Your Options" screen, you can lengthen or shorten the clip however much you'd like - you decide!

I want to include video clips that are both portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal). Is that OK?

Movies that contain clips in both portrait and landscape will be of reduced quality. We will create a movie from this, however, you will see some black bars to make up for the differing sizes of the clips. Most people do not like this result and we do not recommend it.

How much time does rendering take?

Rendering can take a minute or more. It all depends on length of the video clips, the special effects chosen, and even your music track. We're continually striving to improve our rendering process, so if you have feedback we'd love to hear it! support@hlcam.com

Will HighlightCam work on my phone?

HighlightCam works on all iOS devices running 4.3 or higher and Android devices running 2.2 or higher.

Can I save my videos?

HighlightCam gives you the ability to save your movies directly to your camera roll or feed. Within the "Share" menu, tap the blue arrow next to your movie then select "Save to Camera Roll". If you're on the feed, simply tap the "Download" icon next to the clip you want to see. Now you can enjoy your clip on the go!

Can I make a video private?

No need to worry, all videos are totally private unless you actively share your video's link with others and/or post it elsewhere. No one can stumble across, search for, or access your video without your permission. Your videos are safe.

How does HLC know what scenes to include?

HighlightCam uses advanced algorithms and Artificial Intelligence to identify the best scenes in all of your clips, and then edit them together for you - automatically!

Help! My video uploaded but never finished processing. What do I do?

How do I show just videos? Just Pics?

Just tap the filter select button in the upper left corner of the "Pick Your Videos" menu - this allows users to choose to view videos, pictures, or both.

How do I upload my video to Facebook?

The easiest way to upload to Facebook is from the "Share" menu. Tap the blue arrow next to the clip you want to share then select the "Facebook" icon to post it to Facebook. That's it!

How do I review the video once I'm done?

Once the video has finished processing, you'll get a popup that says "Your HighlightCam Mini-movie is ready!" Pressing "OK" will take you to the "Share" menu so you can watch it.

My video won't download. What do I do?

The best thing to do is to email a link to the movie directly to us so we can investigate the problem. Go to the "Share" menu and tap the blue arrow next to the movie so you are taken to the details page. Select the "Email" icon, then send the email to support@hlcam.com with your username and the brief description of "Video Won't Download".

How do I turn on location services?

You can turn on location services by going to Settings >> Location Services >> HighlightCam. Make sure the slider says "On" and you're good to go!

Can I pick two special effects for one movie?

Movies are currently restricted to having only one special effect per movie, but we are looking into it for future versions.

How do I transfer a video to my laptop?

If you've already downloaded the movie, then it's incredibly easy! Once you're in the "Share" menu, tap the movie you want to transfer and then select "Save to Camera Roll". The movie will then be saved to your phone's photo library. The next time you sync your phone, the movie will be transferred along with all of your other new photos!
